The Karkhana

A workshop, not a warehouse

Karkhana is the old word for the weaving house — the room where the looms live, the naqshas are read, and the same families have worked for generations. Ours is in Madanpura, Varanasi. This page is who we are.

Banaras

The city is the provenance

Ten minutes from the river, the lanes of Madanpura have held pit looms for as long as anyone's grandfather remembers. The saree trade calls the cloth "Banarasi" — we mean it literally. Every piece we sell is woven inside this city, in our own house.

The people

Weavers with names, not counts

Brands talk about "3000 artisans" and name none of them. Our karkhana works the other way: fewer looms, held by families we can introduce you to. The weaver's name travels with every saree — on the certificate, on this site, in the story you pass on with the heirloom.

The promise

Woven, not printed. Ever.

Silk Mark on every silk. GI-tag on every Banarasi weave. Real silver-gilt zari, tested, never plastic. A numbered certificate inside every box. If a piece takes six weeks on the loom, we tell you six weeks — the wait is the proof.
